This is a play set in Wexford, a small town in south east Ireland. All the action takes place in an old fashioned betting shop immediately before and after Wexford’s success in the All-Ireland Finals. STEVEN the betting shop owner, lives alone with his daughter EILEEN, having been deserted by his wife who ran off to England with legendary Wexford wide boy DANGER DOYLE. We learn from betting shop regulars JOEY and GEORGIE that the cleaner MOLLY, the cleaner, also had an affair with DANGER, so she has some issues with him as well. In fact, there doesn’t seem to a person in the play who isn’t at least a bit thrown to hear the news that Danger Doyle is back

The play shows the warmth and camaraderie of belonging, but also exposes its dark underbelly of being trapped in a smalltown with it’s conflicts and resentments and the human pain of rejection, longing and loss, and how they can feed the mythology surrounding the people who actually leave.
